Royal Marine SHOT TWICE By Amazon Pirates
Royal Marine SHOT TWICE By Amazon Pirates, features John Bathgate & Ian Roberts. Featured recently on international news, the two former Royal Marines were trying to navigate the Amazon on a charity adventure, when armed pirates tried to stand in their way.
Transcript from ‘Royal Marine SHOT TWICE’ podcast
Ian – He was kind of making motions for us to go off down the the smaller part of the river, so imagine a massive island right in front of us. He wanted us to go down the left-hand side which was out on the flow of the river. Bigger than the Thames, but it’s the smaller part of the river. We basically said no and he was beginning to piss us both off. He then stood up and pulled a pistol out and so before he could aim, I struck him with my paddle high up in the chest. I guess the best way we can kind of get out of that situation if there’s armed or just aggressive men. We’re both pretty big lads compared to most Peruvians.

Transcript from ‘I Crossed The Channel In A Dinghy’ podcast
Lee – It that was going to be the culmination of a week of living in France. So we went to Paris first of all to take part in the yellow vest protests. I was tear gassed by the French police and I’ve got it on video, it’s brilliant. We went to one of the notorious migrant camps on the outskirts of Paris.
Chris – Were you trying to prove a political point?
Lee – We didn’t go in with a bias, we went there with a purpose. We didn’t want to go in with any preconceptions. But we didn’t want to go in there and then to be the focus of what we’re going to see.

John – I’ve got a very good friend who’s a director in Hollywood called Jessie V Johnson. He’s produced quite a lot of films and he was aware of what I was doing. Because he does a lot of action and adventure films, he was wanting to add some of my daggers, because it fitted the character. When you’re thinking about a lot of assassins and James Bond type people. All these things kind of fitted in, so I was more than happy to oblige because I could say he’s a friend anyway. That’s how the whole thing started.

The Royal Marines Baghdad Cookbook | Robbie Stevenson #334
The Royal Marines Baghdad Cookbook, features Robbie Stevenson of 45 Commando, who helped finish a book for his colleague, Alan Boyd.
The Royal Marines Baghdad Cookbook – Food Under Fire
The Baghdad Cookbook, features Robbie Stevenson who is a veteran of 45 Commando. After serving in multiple conflicts around the world, he moved into the private security sector. The book was initially written by Alan Boyd who joined the Royal Marines in 1979 and he served with 45 Commando during the Falklands War. Alan too moved into the world of private security as a team leader. He was diagnosed with Leukaemia and passed away in 2013. His book was finished by Robbie and Scotty Greig of The Royal Highland Fusiliers.
Transcript from ‘The Royal Marines Baghdad Cookbook’ podcast
Robbie – It’s actually the brainchild of Al Boyd, who was a former senior NCO in the in the Royal Marines. We worked together in Iraq as contractors. There’s three of us, myself, Al and Scotty Greig. He had this idea for a cookbook with dits and stories about people that he’d come into contact with. From the core and working out in Iraq.
The next thing we knew, he’d written the first chapter and he’d written the first draft of this book. Then Alan, the selfish git, went and died on us, so unfortunately he didn’t get a chance to see it through. Alan passed away in 2013 with leukemia and so I picked up the batton.

Veterans’ Anger As Government Deny Suicide Rates #318
Veterans’ Anger As Government Deny Suicide Rates, features former Royal Marines Commando and Falklands veteran, WO2 Jeff Williams.
Veterans’ Anger As Government Deny Suicide Rates
Veterans’ Anger As Government Deny Suicide Rates, features former Royal Marines Commando, Jeff Williams. After a long service in the corps and as a Falklands veteran, Jeff finished his career as a Warrant Officer Class 2.
Transcript from ‘Veterans’ Anger As Government Deny Suicide Rates’ podcast
Jeff – One of our brothers took his life and I was just shocked. As you can probably remember from your service Chris, it was something that was never happened. All of a sudden, a royal marine has commited suicide. I was quite taken back by it, so I did a bit of backroom research. I found out it was more commonplace than I thought, especially in the aftermath of Afghanistan. The toil that that took out of our troops, across the board. I spoke to a few veteran friends and said, you know what’s going on and it seems like we’ve missed something here. There’s a key and it’s really important to the veterans community. On the back of that conversation, myself and Simon Marion started Veterans United Against Suicide.
It’s a group of like-minded people whom want the best for veterans. To try and reduce the losses which are astronomical. We challenge the government to get their viewpoint on it with any statistics that we could tap into. We don’t keep any statistics on veterans, only on the serving side. Once you leave the military, so many people will testify, you lose your identity somewhat. So many people have slipped through the net.

Royal Marines Commando Recruit Troop Boss And Kat! | Bought The T-Shirt #302
Royal Marines Commando Recruit Troop Boss, features Jock Hutchison who founded Horseback UK to help veterans with PTSD.
Royal Marines Commando Recruit Troop Boss And Kat!
Jock Hutchison is president and co-founder of Horseback UK. He was a commissioned officer in the Royal Marines and saw service all over the world. Jock was selected to be a helicopter pilot and served across all branches of the British Armed Forces. Horseback UK was set up to help veterans with life-changing injuries, although that demographic has changed to include civilians.
Kat Henderson worked as a nurse in Australia, before joining the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. After being an outdoors adventurer, she had a life changing moment from a biking accident in France, which saw her paralysed from the waist down. She is now on the team with Horseback UK.
Transcript from ‘Royal Marines Commando Recruit Troop Boss And Kat!’ podcast
Jock – We help people from the military community and others and our job is to help people that have really hit rock bottom, to reconnect to their former self and re-establish themselves in the world. I’ll talk about that as we go on but that’s our mission.
Chris – Is that how you met Kat and do you want to explain how that came about?
Jock – Yes I’ll introduce Kat. You know I was a member of our team, the Royal Marines which encouraged values that have never left me. Speaking to Chris, it’s great to hear that you know whatever happens in life, I don’t think that kind of experience ever leaves you. We needed to put a team together to help the work that we do and at the heart of that idea is the idea of empowering people from within the community.

Battle-Scarred To Bushcraft | Nick Goldsmith 45 Commando Royal Marines
Nick Goldsmith is a veteran Royal Marines Commando and served for eleven years with the corps. He completed four tours of Afghanistan, as well as other overseas operations. After suffering personal issues, he was diagnosed with PTSD and spent four years in a military recovery centre. Nick retrained as a Bushcraft Instructor and in 2015, he and his wife set up Hidden Valley Bushcraft. Going from strength to strength, Nick’s YouTube channel has a rapidly growing audience.
Transcript from ‘Battle-Scarred To Bushcraft’ podcast
Nick – One of my other roles was to drive a light-skinned Land Rover or a Jackal, which was one of these new-age fancy 6.8 liter super turbocharged engine things. The only downside is that and Land Rover had about this much armor, just two doors armor plated, doors strapped on that finished about sort of shoulder height and that was it. The rest was just, take your chance you know. You’re rolling around in a wadi with a 50 cal barrel inches behind your head.

40 Commando in Afghanistan features Dale Hardiman, who after completing two tours of Afghanistan with the Royal Marines, became a champion MMA athlete.
40 Commando In Afghanistan | Dale Hardiman Royal Marines
Dale Hardiman is a veteran Royal Marines Commando and the founder of Hardiman Performance. He served in two tours of Afghanistan with 40 Commando. Dale is also a former professional MMA athlete and British champion.
Transcript from ’40 Commando In Afghanistan’ podcast
Dale – I just remember that was the first time it was just me who was responsible, if that makes sense? Rather than being a collective of people firing towards someone or like the mortar line. You know I was a member of the mortar line and I was on the barrel. It’s just a weird feeling and sadly I felt kind of good. It was just a weird feeling to feel.

The youngest Royal Marine in the war features Davey Robb who served with 42 Commando during the battle of Mount Harriet in the Falklands War.
The Youngest Royal Marine In The War | Falklands 40th | Davey Robb
David Robb was the youngest Royal Marine to serve in the Falklands War. He was also the fittest marine in his troop and went on to box at the Commonwealth games in Edinburgh. This is a detailed account of his time with 42 Commando.
Transcript from ‘The Youngest Royal Marine In The War’ podcast
Davey – All of a sudden I was either taken away from defensive or we all became part of it. Our job or my job with Smudge, was to take up a position at the bottom of Mount Harriet, to to the side so to speak. So we’re here at the side, we’ve then got K company on the start line. Then L company come up and our job was to keep their heads down.
As soon as any firing started, our job was to just keep firing at that non-stop, until it stopped and you either got them or they moved.
Chris – Were you in the SF role now?
Davey – Yes I went into SF. I even thought because there was a couple of close ones, of taking my lace because I had spare laces. This sounds stupid but I thought of taking my lace out because it wouldn’t move. This SF is solid. I even thought I’d take my lace out and instead of sticking my head up, actually tying a lace and then pulling it to fire three or four you know?

SHOT In Afghanistan | Special Boat Service | Bought The T-Shirt #251
Shot in Afghanistan features Toby Gutteridge, who was a Special Boat Service soldier, left paralyzed from a bullet through his neck.
SHOT In Afghanistan | Special Boat Service | Toby Gutteridge | Bought The T-Shirt
Toby Gutteridge is a former member of the Special Boat Service. He is also one of the youngest ever recruits to pass their elite selection process. Shot through the neck whilst operating behind enemy lines in Afghanistan, he was unable to breathe for over 20 minutes. Doctors recommended his life-support machine be switched off. With a defiant spirit, Toby pulled through and rebuilt his life. After returning to formal education, Toby attained a first-class honours degree and now runs his own company called, ‘Bravery’. Toby’s book, ‘Never Will I Die’, is a passionate account of life triumphing over death.
Transcript from ‘Shot In Afghanistan’ podcast
Toby – On an operation a sniper got me in their crosshairs and luckily it just winged me. Basically it was a million dollar wound I suppose. One inch to the left and it probably would have taken my arm completely off. It was the Dragonov sniper rifle. If that had been one inch to the left, it would have hit the bone of my upper shoulder and probably would have taken my arm completely off. I would have had to have it amputated so yes, very lucky there. As it went straight clean through and I was back out on the ground soon afterwards.
