After leaving the Royal Marines to run a successful business in Asia, Chris found himself homeless, suffering acute mental illness from crystal meth addiction and working for the Hong Kong triads. Declining conventional support, Chris rebuilt his life to become a qualified pilot, skydiver, adventurer and bestselling author. He has expeditioned to eighty countries on seven continents and raised thousands for charity. An extreme-endurance athlete, in 2018 Chris ran an ultra-marathon a day for thirty-seven days, unsupported, the length of Britain, to raise awareness of veterans suicide, and in 2019 a quadruple ironman consisting of a 9.6-mile swim, 450-mile cycle and a 107-mile run. Chris firewalked forty metres on red-hot coals to raise money to work with street children in war-torn Mozambique. He's driven volunteer journalists to India and back by bus to highlight global poverty. Chris was awarded the Second Level Commendation of the Finnish Nation on the grounds of Human Generosity for his ability to inspire others. Backpacking through every country in North, Central and South America, he dived off the famous cliff in Acapulco, caught piranhas and survived without equipment in the Amazon rainforest and snorkelled with bull sharks off Belize. In colder climes, he has scuba-dived with leopard seals and icebergs in the sub-zero waters of the Antarctic Polar Circle. Chris wrote the bestselling memoir Eating Smoke, a frank yet humorous account of his time down and out in Hong Kong. He has appeared on numerous podcasts and programs and two award-wining radio plays have been made about his life. Forty Nights, Chris’s second memoir, details how the life-changing experience of addiction led to his enlightenment. Chris has a degree in youth and community work and is a substance-misuse/addiction specialist. He presents this topic from a progressive perspective. Martin Edwards was a Royal Marine and went on to be an operator in the elite 14th Intelligence unit. Originally from Rhyl, Martin escaped a horrific childhood to forge out a successful and varied career. He managed to retire as a multi-millionaire. His best-selling book, ‘Ultimate Survivor’ tells a mind-blowing story of IRA ambushes and run-ins with Sinn Fein politicians. Add to the mix a few military coups and being a bodyguard to royalty.

Martin – They both had the same injuries as the bullets had gone through their stomach. James had gone for his pistol and taken a lot out, so she sat with him as he died in the hospital. I was on control because you have one operator doing the radio to call people in and the two operators. Well unfortunately he died bless him. I was going to go back in the marines until I was interviewed by a major who called me a fucking cowboy.

There was about a month before I said no and so when I went back I was all bravado. This is where I followed McGuinness into a shop. You get all cocky don’t you at the end of your tour, nothing can touch me. So I’m doing a foot patrol through Derry and McGuinness walks into this shop.

Sohom – Yes that does sound like somebody who could be a psychopath. I suppose gaslighting may be what you’re talking about. It’s kind of a manipulation to make somebody think they’re crazy for questioning their behaviour.

There’s something fascinating about going into other people’s delusional worlds. I speak to these people with diagnoses like schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. There’s no other way for me to put it and it’s just like stepping into somebody else’s delusional system. I saw a lot of people who would be at the lower steps and post-suicide attempts would be a classic reason for being admitted.

Thomas – I have taken a lot of good memories and good souvenirs. The romantic way of life is a soldier’s life you know? I’ve been two years in the French Foreign Legion and this is the jungle regiment in French Guyana. I chose the adventure and this was in the French Foreign Legion. I’ve been in deep jungle with crocodiles and marched through the bush with a big rock sargon on my back.

Nimsdai was born in Nepal and like his father and brothers before, signed up to join the Gurkhas. Nims then passed selection for the UK’s special-forces and served another ten years with the Special Boat Service. After leaving the forces, Nims has gone on to become one of the world’s greatest mountaineers. He has accumulated an ever-growing list of record-breaking climbs and rescue missions. After one such mission, Nims was awarded an MBE for outstanding achievement in high-altitude mountaineering. His Netflix documentary, ’14 Peaks’, follows his attempt to summit all 14 of the world’s ‘Death Zone’ peaks in just seven months.

Nims – Thank you Chris. You know it’s a really humbling. Everything I do in life, I give one-hundred percent and writing this book was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I’m not sure if i’m going to write another book if i’m honest. When you write something, it becomes black and white, then it becomes concrete. To write this amount of an enormous book up to this stage, it’s kind my autobiography. I grew up in a very small humbling background with almost nothing. To joining The Gurkhas, failing on the first attempt and then making it happen. Then going into the special forces and serving with the elite forces for ten years.
