Matt – When I first applied for the police, my application got shoved in the bin because of all the spelling and grammar mistakes. I never knew there were so many ways of saying, ‘there’. There’s a lot of people who are like that and t’s just the way it is. People didn’t get great educations when they were younger, so I had to reteach myself with English or maths and all that. Back then, having no qualifications didn’t stop me getting into places, you just had to do an entrance exam. I persevered, took ownership and worked my way through that and did the exam. I passed it so then it was on to the next phase where you have role plays and you assessed on how you deal with situations in a group.
Then it was an interview and then you do 15 weeks training. It’s like a military camp, only it’s a police one and we did our 15 weeks training there where you learned more. You did a bit of fitness, a swimming test and life-saving, but I wouldn’t say it was hard.

Bart – I first met a gentleman when I was a reporter at NBC News who worked for the Space Program during the Apollo program. He had a very high security clearance and he said that he read a memo from Von Braun the rocket designer to the Pentagon. It warned them not to attempt a deadline for putting a man on the Moon by the end of the sixties. Kennedy misspoke and said in fact NASA has never kept a schedule ever in their entire history, except the most complicated untried mission of all time to put a telescope into Earth orbit. With two decades better technology than Apollo, they were 10 years behind schedule.

Scott – When all of the passengers are getting onto the aircraft, we’re briefing what happens what we expect to happen if everything goes right. We’re also briefing what happens when things go wrong and we’re looking at different scenarios. What are the worst scenarios if we’re on the take off roll and what would we do if this happened? We will always brief if we need to return immediately and that would probably be for as fumes or smoke in the flight deck. If we’re on fire and we can’t put the fire out, we’ll be immediately returning and we’ll come up with a couple of scenarios, so that in our head when we see it pop up, we’ll think, oh that’s one of the ones we briefed.

Dave – The house they put me in was right across from the secret police headquarters. They did that deliberately to try and intimidate people. At that time there was a massive drug problem with Escobar. What he was doing was, was flying aircraft from both Colombia and Venezuela and the planes were dropping drugs off the keys or they were Landing in Lakeland in Florida.
A lot of the aircraft didn’t have the range at the time, so they were landing on South Caicos, which was the next Island dock from Grand Turk. The prime minister of Caicos was actually getting money from Escobar for allowing these aircraft to land. So what happened was a guy called Barry Seal, he was an ex-green Beret and he’d been caught by the DEA for flying drugs in and out of Nicaragua. He was told that he had to work with the D.A or else he was going to go to prison.
