Tracey – I do think that it needs to start in schools, in terms of the opportunities that are out there. It’s not gender driven and it shouldn’t be, obviously. Although you know, you can look at this, but when I get into an airplane, I’m not thinking, here I am a female flying. But we’ve all got so bogged in the gender issue and that’s just awful actually. I just hope now that you know we finally are working towards something that resembles a level playing field.

Chris – I’m a veteran Tracy and I see the way fellow veterans treat each other at times. Not all of them folks as there are some wonderful people in the veterans community. But some of them are just so bitter and full of this outpouring of hatred to anyone that achieves anything.

Tracey – Why is it always, you gotta tear them down, rather than just say something nice? I think that’s an extraordinarily British thing, to drag people down and you know it’s that tall poppy syndrome.

C – Well my gosh, again I’m so lucky doing what I do Tim you know. I really get to chat, not only to the most fascinating people on the planet, but all the people if I was to have my choice in life, who am I going to chat to today, it’s going to be people like yourself. T – You know it’s interesting because I was actually a bomber pilot. When you say you’re a bomber pilot to the civilian community they don’t understand what that is because they’ve seen Top Gun and you know I get it. I was a Tornado GR4 pilot, which is the aircraft you can see just on the back over here. As we said previously before we came on air, father was in the military. Fathers, fathers, father was in the military. So I ended up going into the military…

Red Arrows To 747 Pilot | Sqn Ldr Andy Wyatt

Andy started his career in the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1979 and after completing flying training flew the iconic English Electric Lightning with 11(F) Squadron at Royal Air Force Binbrook in Lincolnshire. His duties included intercepting intruding Russian aircraft during the height of the Cold War. 4 years flying the Lightning was followed by a tour as a flying instructor at Royal Air Force Valley in Anglesey, flying the British Aerospace Hawk, where Andy taught student pilots and instructors in the advanced flying role. He was selected to join the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows, for a 3 year tour of duty.

Andy was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air and on promotion to Squadron Leader. Andy joined British Airways as a Captain on the Boeing 747 ‘Jumbo Jet’, flew long haul routes around the world. He is currently the Chief Pilot for Longtail Aviation, an international cargo airline based in Bermuda. Andy has flown a vast number of aircraft and now has over 20,000 hours of flying experience.

So, my gosh, we hooked up on linked in, and I’m very fortunate to meet people on linked in with such rich histories and experiences such as yours Andy. From the Red Arrows to commercial airline pilot. Anyone who grew up in my era watched a film called Airplane, it was a spoof of all the jumbo jet movies of the seventies and eighties.
