Better To Die Than Be A Coward | The Gurkhas | Tim Gurung
Known for their bravery and loyalty, the Gurkhas are an elite fighting force. They are recruited from tribes around Nepal’s Himalayan foothills for the Nepalese, Indian and British army. Tim Gurung’s book, ‘The Gurkhas’ focuses on their military history, with interviews from nearly one-hundred of their veterans.

Tim – In Nepal you had a British army officer who would walk from village to village. I’m probably getting this a bit wrong because it was a long time ago. These young men would come forward and their dream was to be a Gurkha. They would have some criteria and I think you mentioned their chest would have to expand a certain amount of inches. You would have to carry a basket across a route march and some of these young men, they would walk for days to get to the recruitment post.

James – I’ve been investigating alien abductions and extraterrestrial life forms, for over thirty years now. My mentor was Barbara Barthelic and she was the foremost alien abduction researcher in history. Her first protege was Doctor Carla Turner. I strongly believe both of them were assassinated. She was a pioneer in this field. I’ve had my own alien abduction experiences that have prompted me to embark on this odyssey of research and investigations. I’ve a strong background studying military history and the aerospace community. I was born into a military family and I’m very familiar with the way the military works.

Mark Roberts is the world’s most famous streaker. After his first naked dash, he continued to strip off at every major sporting event, including, Wimbledon, the Super-Bowl and the Olympic Games. Following a 2001 conviction for streaking, Mark had to surrender his passport whenever an English football team played abroad. British TV viewers will remember Mark’s infiltration of Fred Talbot’s weather map on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’. A celebrity in his own right, Mark has featured in numerous television adverts and a 2011 Banksy-produced documentary, ‘The Antics Roadshow’.

Mark – I hadn’t even looked into the stadium and one of the first things I saw was a fella with a chicken, swinging it around his head. You know, watching the game, it was a carnival Chris. It was a party atmosphere. So I walked down the main stand and took the clothes off. The all-blacks were playing South Africa at the time, so I just ran on backwards, bollock-naked. As I ran up, I picked up the ball, ran the whole length of the field and scored a try. That moment changed my life forever. As I turned around, the whole stadium of sixty-five thousdand people, were all on their feet screaming and cheering.
