After leaving the Royal Marines to run a successful business in Asia, Chris found himself homeless, suffering acute mental illness from crystal meth addiction and working for the Hong Kong triads. Declining conventional support, Chris rebuilt his life to become a qualified pilot, skydiver, adventurer and bestselling author. He has expeditioned to eighty countries on seven continents and raised thousands for charity. An extreme-endurance athlete, in 2018 Chris ran an ultra-marathon a day for thirty-seven days, unsupported, the length of Britain, to raise awareness of veterans suicide, and in 2019 a quadruple ironman consisting of a 9.6-mile swim, 450-mile cycle and a 107-mile run. Chris firewalked forty metres on red-hot coals to raise money to work with street children in war-torn Mozambique. He's driven volunteer journalists to India and back by bus to highlight global poverty. Chris was awarded the Second Level Commendation of the Finnish Nation on the grounds of Human Generosity for his ability to inspire others. Backpacking through every country in North, Central and South America, he dived off the famous cliff in Acapulco, caught piranhas and survived without equipment in the Amazon rainforest and snorkelled with bull sharks off Belize. In colder climes, he has scuba-dived with leopard seals and icebergs in the sub-zero waters of the Antarctic Polar Circle. Chris wrote the bestselling memoir Eating Smoke, a frank yet humorous account of his time down and out in Hong Kong. He has appeared on numerous podcasts and programs and two award-wining radio plays have been made about his life. Forty Nights, Chris’s second memoir, details how the life-changing experience of addiction led to his enlightenment. Chris has a degree in youth and community work and is a substance-misuse/addiction specialist. He presents this topic from a progressive perspective. Along with trademark Royal Marines humour, Chris’s fascinating story, inspirational message and passionate approach appeals to those unlocking their potential and corporate clients concerned with workforce wellbeing.

Chris – You go into your twelve months at Sandhurst, where you spend a couple of years as a non-commissioned officer. So in my case I sort of reached my ceiling at lance-corporal. Sandhurst was the only way I hit. After that I wanted to carry on my career and then you could go right the way through the ranks, which we call a late entry commission. Those guys just do a couple of weeks obviously, because they don’t need to to do much longer. There’s not much they need to be trained in, but in terms of when you get there, you’re sponsored by one of the regiments.

Andy Ruffell is a legend in the world of BMX. Besides being a champion rider, he was also a true pioneer of the sport. His accolades include being number one BMX rider throughout the early eighties and winning every freestyle event entered. In 1984 he was awarded, ‘Young cyclist of the year’ by the minister for sport. Andy won The UK Freestyle Champion’s award and also became the Screensport Pro Champion in 1985. He held both the world records for both Bunny-Hop and People-Hop height. Andy made over five-hundred appearances on television and also starred in commercials for Kellogs and Readybrek. Twelve thousand people attended the Andy Ruffell show in South Africa and he also found time to record a top-thirty record entitled, ‘BMX Boys Have a Lot of Fun’.

Andy – Yes I must admit I suffer that problem. I’ve been doing a bit of mountain biking the last six months or so and it’s been a game changer, but I kind of tend to ride like I did years ago. You know you never forget how to ride a bike, you just become old and fat and it becomes much harder to ride a bike. So I’ve found out to my cost.

There were rockets from Gaza and a lot of domestic terrorism taking place. I just landed from the United States, I believe it was the 18th of May and I got called in urgently by the military for about twenty days, to be involved in some of the activities.
