Record Breaking Cyclist & World Triathlon Champion | Kate Strong | #246

Record breaking cyclist & world triathlon, features Kate Strong who is an Olympic world champion triathlon athlete.

Record Breaking Cyclist & World Triathlon Champion

Kate Strong became the World Triathlon Champion in 2014 after events in her life had spiralled out of control. Financially in debt, she took up running and became the world’s best athlete in her field. Kate became a performance and leadership coach before reaching the summit of Mount Blanc with her 71 year old father. In 2021 Kate undertook three world record attempts in cycling and has no plans for taking things easy. Her positive spirit and podcasts are an inspiration for people who are struggling to push forward in life. In 2023, Kate and her partner will be undertaking a mammoth bike ride to raise awareness of global health. Their journey will take them around the coastline of England, Scotland and Wales, which is approximately 3000 miles.

Transcript from ‘Record Breaking Cyclist’ podcast

Kate – I was running in the blue mountains where I lived in Australia at the time and it was a great way for me to build up that integrity and put myself first. There’s the three sisters and lived very close to there actually in a place called Blackheath. I was in one of those towns very near to the the three sisters and there was a bush fire and it’s just smoke everywhere and I stopped for a bit to have a look.

I was quite pleased to get back in my hire car and bug out of there. Yes it’s very wild and we forget sometimes. I live in Britain now and we forget how wild the world is you know?

Fastest Man On Earth | Jason Hardrath | Podcast #181

Jason Hardrath is an extreme endurance athlete and a school P.E. teacher. He holds the fastest known time (or FKT in running language) for Mount McLoughlin. He made it to the 9,495-foot summit in just under an hour and three minutes. This extreme endurance athlete has also qualified for world-championships with the gruelling Ironman competitions. After a severe car-crash, he’s gone on to become an expert mountain-climber & he is currently in training for his next challenge – climbing some of The U.S.A.’s toughest peaks, back to back.

Transcript from ‘Fastest Man On Earth’ Podcast

Jason – I was just out chasing cool things I’d accumulated with rock climbing, mountaineering and orienteering skill sets. I’d also had a traumatic car accident that kind of took away my running for a while and when the running came back, I’d accumulated this skill set as part of my process of finding something to do with myself. When my running came back I was like, oh well now I’m going to run between these big mountain objectives and deep back-country things. So it made it really easy to go for fastest known times.

Chris – I think the thing we always need to remind ourselves is, some people are just really not very well and we have the same thing in the military. We call them Walter Mitties and they’re the these individuals that dress up with all the military regalia. One knows they’ve got the beret of some special forces unit and of course they’ve never served. It’s incredibly sad but I had one of these gentlemen on the podcast, who’s let’s use the word, recovered from this delusion. When it came down to it, he suffered some severe abuse as a child.

Chris and Jamie

C – Jamie, how are you brother?

J – I’m very well thank you, and thank you for having me on your podcast.

C –  No listen Jamie, the thanks is all mine. My life keeps throwing up little gems for me. I’m both delighted and suprised by it all, and it brought me to you. For our friends at home Jamie is the ultimate adventure warrior, in that beautiful sense that most of us want to do, but most people will probably never make time for. I’m talking all the adventures you want. The running, the cycling, the global exploration. I’ve been hearing about all these amazing one off feats of endurance, and then there’s guys like you. You haven’t stopped hitting it have you Jamie?

J – I think the big difference between the adventuring I do and other people is I don’t pursue records of any sort or anything like that. The WOW factor of breaking a record just doesn’t interest me. I’m just a guy that does what he does because I love it and I try to make a living out of it wherever I can.
