Paul Cardin is a veteran of the Royal Navy and served as a Leading Radio Operator, during the Falklands War. He was stationed on HMS Yarmouth, an anti-submarine frigate, situated in what was known as, ‘Bomb-Alley’. His highly rated book lifts the lid on many events during that conflict and gives thought for some uncomfortable questions.

Paul – In 1981 there were riots and there were three million unemployed. There were top economists saying whatever you do, don’t put up taxes and then she did put up taxes. She made everything even worse. So industry and manufacturing was decimated, not decimated straight away but the mines and steel plants closed. There’s all these big major industrial sites closing down and unemployment shooting up. By the end of 81, Mrs Thatcher had a 23 approval rating and that is a record. It’s still the lowest approval rating for any prime minister, even Cameron and May never they went that low.
