Man DOWN! | Afghanistan | Falklands | Northern Ireland | Podcast | #189

Former Royal Marine Corporal Ric Coulson served on multiple operational tours including Afghanistan, Iraq and Sierra Leone. Ric witnessed the savage, brutal nature of war fighting and he took part in close-quarter battle. Former Royal Marines Major, Andy Shaw, is a King’s Badgeman and Sword of Honour recipient. Andy experienced the utter horror of combat in the Falklands Conflict. What these two men don’t know about war, isn’t worth listening to. What they do know about its effects, is this.

Transcript from ‘Man DOWN!’ podcast

Andy – The war fighting wasn’t anything like what Ric has been through. The two main events that my organization went through, included an ambush that went badly wrong. It was a fighting patrol that was meant to go and destroy some enemy positions. We had a thing called a, ‘blue on blue’. That resulted in four fatalities and three men very seriously injured.

From The Royal Marines To A Satanic Coven | Brian Knox | #188

From The Royal Marines to a Satanic coven, features Brian Knox who found a life of violence, drugs & prison, before finding God. Brian shares with Chris, his life experience after being kicked out of The Royal Marines and finding his way into a life of crime. After becoming a drug-dealer and dabbling with a Satanist group, Brian found himself languishing in prison and re-evaluating his life. Fortunately, not only for Brian, but for his family too, he found Jesus to guide him out of the mire.

Transcript from ‘From The Royal Marines’ podcast

Brian – I found myself having deliverance from demons and it absolutely changed my life. I felt it inside me and due to the very sinful life I’ve lived, now I stand in the grace of God today. None of us are perfect and the word of God says, ‘None of us are righteous’. Everybody’s found guilty under the law of God.

TAKEN In Afghanistan | Asad Qureshi | Podcast | #187

Taken in Afghanistan, features Asad Qureshi chatting about his abduction by the Asian Tigers, whilst he was making a film in North Waziristan, interviewing Taliban leaders.

TAKEN In Afghanistan | Asad Qureshi | Podcast | #187

Asad Qureshi is a British filmmaker who was kidnapped on 26 March 2010 by a militant group calling themselves, The Asian Tigers. He was making a film in North Waziristan and interviewing Taliban leaders. Qureshi was accompanied by his driver, Rustam Khan and two senior members of the Inter-Services Intelligence. All four men were abducted and Khalid was killed. Asad and Rustam were released in September 2010, after they’d been held in captivity for one hundred and sixty five days. Colonel Imam was then executed in January 2011. The two men’s release was a rare occurrence, as the Pakistani Taliban had been known to kill most of their victims.

Transcript from ‘TAKEN In Afghanistan’ podcast

Chris – Hello Asad, you’ve said that you’re originally from Pakistan.

Asad – Yes I was born in Pakistan and we moved to England in the sixties.

Chris – Through your work, you’ve spent a lot of time in the middle-east. Do you get to go to Pakistan often?

Asad – Yes I moved to Pakistan to be closer to my parents.

Royal Marines veterans take on the infamous 9-mile speed march

Royal Marines veterans, take on the infamous 9-mile speed march. The event was held at Spean Bridge in Scotland, in aid of The Royal Marines charity, who are celebrating 75 years with their work.

Left to Right: Lt Col Gaz Veacock RM, Mne Ross Cooney RMR, Capt X RM, Gunner Daz Adams RA, Cpl Andy Dunkin RM,
Mne Chris Thrall RM, LCpl Jase Paterson RM, Cpl Rick Coulson RM, Cpl Steve Boden RM, WO1 Mac McMillan RM and Ralphy (the dog)

Chris Thrall

I’m proud of the boys. At fifty-plus years, we demonstrate the Royal Marines Commando ethos, that we never leave a man (or woman) behind. Be proud to talk about mental-health, because Royal Marines do!

Royal Marines veterans take on the infamous 9-mile speed march

By Cpl (Rtd) Steve Boden RM

An RMA North Devon led team of both current and former Royal Marines recently completed the Spean Bridge Train Station – Achnacarry Speed March in support of RMA – The Royal Marines Charity.

It was also completed to raise awareness of the ongoing Mental Health challenges faced within the RM and across all the Armed Forces. This iconic route was first undertaken by Commando’s during WWII, whereby when individuals arrived at the Spean Bridge Train Station, they had to complete the 7-mile (11Km) route to Achnacarry Castle with equipment and weapons, within an hour. Those who were unsuccessful were returned to their unit the following day. This speed march was not only relevant 80 years ago, but also remains key today were a comparable march (9-mile) is completed as one of the Commando Tests at CTCRM. It remains a rite of passage with gaining the coveted green beret.
