Royal Marines Commando Recruit Troop Boss And Kat!
Jock Hutchison is president and co-founder of Horseback UK. He was a commissioned officer in the Royal Marines and saw service all over the world. Jock was selected to be a helicopter pilot and served across all branches of the British Armed Forces. Horseback UK was set up to help veterans with life-changing injuries, although that demographic has changed to include civilians.
Kat Henderson worked as a nurse in Australia, before joining the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. After being an outdoors adventurer, she had a life changing moment from a biking accident in France, which saw her paralysed from the waist down. She is now on the team with Horseback UK.

Jock – We help people from the military community and others and our job is to help people that have really hit rock bottom, to reconnect to their former self and re-establish themselves in the world. I’ll talk about that as we go on but that’s our mission.
Chris – Is that how you met Kat and do you want to explain how that came about?
Jock – Yes I’ll introduce Kat. You know I was a member of our team, the Royal Marines which encouraged values that have never left me. Speaking to Chris, it’s great to hear that you know whatever happens in life, I don’t think that kind of experience ever leaves you. We needed to put a team together to help the work that we do and at the heart of that idea is the idea of empowering people from within the community.

Sentenced To Death By The DPR | Shaun Pinner Ukraine Marines
Shaun Pinner is a former British soldier from the Royal Anglian Regiment, who joined the Ukrainian marines. When the Russian invasion of Ukraine started, he and his colleagues were right at the front of the action. Eventually captured and sentenced to death, but freed in September as part of a prisoner exchange. Shaun had previously served with the United Nations mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. With Shaun’s previous military experience, he was made squad commander in Ukraine.
Transcript from ‘Sentenced To Death By The DPR’ podcast
Shaun – I was losing weight and then on top of that, we had the interrogations and everything else which just meant I was always fighting lack of intake of food. I was just starving to death and I still say to people, it’s the worst form of torture. You’re just sitting in the cell all day and you’re just thinking about food and where you can get your next food. If you’re in an isolation cell, you don’t know what’s happening and what’s going on. I was quite lucky because I could speak a bit of Russian. When I met the other guys, I was a translator and had an understanding of what was going on.

Chinook Crew ‘Chick’ | Liz McConaghy RAF | Bought The T-Shirt #299
Chinook Crew ‘Chick’ features Liz McConaghy who is an RAF veteran & served with a Chinook Crew over twelve deployments in Iraq & Afghanistan.
Chinook Crew ‘Chick’ | Liz McConaghy RAF
At 21, Sergeant Liz McConaghy was the youngest Chinook crew person to see action, serving in Iraq. She was the longest-serving female Chinook aircrew member on 18(B) Squadron. Liz completed two tours of Iraq and a further ten deployments to Afghanistan. During her deployments, she survived not only a near fatal strike onboard her CH47 and numerous enemy fire contacts, by returning fire from both the M134 Minigun and M60 weapons. Her biggest honour of all her duties, was serving on the Medical Emergency Response Team. (MERT) This involved recovering wounded soldiers from the battlefield, often under fire. She was also on the last 1310 Flight deployment in Afghanistan, as the British forces withdrew.
Transcript from ‘Chinook Crew ‘Chick’ podcast
Liz – I did two diployments to Iraq when I was twenty-one and I was the youngest air crew to go to Iraq. Then I went to Herrick in 2005 and did 10 Herricks, but unlike the army or the Marines would have done six month tours, we only did three months because we had to keep our currencies back here in the UK. So we did three months at a time but because of that it meant it came every freaking year, so it was relentless. I should have bought property out there because you know I spent that much time over there.
