Nick Goldsmith is a veteran Royal Marines Commando and served for eleven years with the corps. He completed four tours of Afghanistan, as well as other overseas operations. After suffering personal issues, he was diagnosed with PTSD and spent four years in a military recovery centre. Nick retrained as a Bushcraft Instructor and in 2015, he and his wife set up Hidden Valley Bushcraft. Going from strength to strength, Nick’s YouTube channel has a rapidly growing audience.

Nick – One of my other roles was to drive a light-skinned Land Rover or a Jackal, which was one of these new-age fancy 6.8 liter super turbocharged engine things. The only downside is that and Land Rover had about this much armor, just two doors armor plated, doors strapped on that finished about sort of shoulder height and that was it. The rest was just, take your chance you know. You’re rolling around in a wadi with a 50 cal barrel inches behind your head.

Anthony – I’ve decided to go public with this investigation for one objective, is to and draw a light on what’s actually happened in Afghanistan. Obviously the Taliban is an umbrella organization with a lot of tribal elements and people who fall under that. The person in question has been ill-treating and beating British nationals and a very large number of Afghan-British dual nationals.

There are over 700 British passport holders in Afghanistan, who are stuck there. There are also hundreds of N.G.O.’s operating there. Ahmed Zaire is trolling and searching through social media networks to identify former British and American Service Personnel.

His passion for wildlife has seen James develop Counter-Poaching programs for conservation organisations in West Africa. Amongst his achievements, James is now a highly successful author.

James – I’d actually had a bit of an interest in it from the Northern Ireland tour with the Marines Chris. There these two long-haired bearded guys came to our location. They gave us a very vague brief on who they were. Basically they were saying if you see anything interesting, forward it to us if they’re chatty or anything like that. Now these two guys didn’t cover themselves in glory with our location and actually there were a couple of cowboys. Which we learnt quite quickly.

Lofty – When he came back to the squadron to take over D Squadron, he wanted to do parts of selection again, so he volunteered. He didn’t have to do it, he’d come back and he said he would like to do endurance march. So when going back to the squadron, people wouldn’t say oh he’s come through the back door. I had breakfast with him at three o’clock in the morning and we dispatched him over the hills.

He got hypothermia and he died on Brecon Beacons. He’s not the first I’m guessing and won’t be the last. You know it’s the toughest force in the world for a reason.

Chris – What about those three troopers that died and where they did they came from? They were reservists weren’t they and they got heat stroke?

Lofty – You shouldn’t have to tell trained soldiers water discipline.
