Kung Fu Master & US Army Veteran
Master Iain Armstrong is a world champion martial-artist. He is a director at the world’s first Kung Fu retreat, based in northern Thailand. AJ first came to Iain’s retreat as a way of dealing with combat stress. After finding the course so helpful, he joined the instructor team and created ‘Project Hammer’ to raise money for veterans.
Transcript from ‘Kung Fu Master & US Army Veteran’ podcast
Iain – Chi is your energy and when your Chi raises, that’s when you see it rising up in your body. When it sinks you’re cool and there’s the really interesting thing. Here it’s there in the English language. If you heart becomes heated, then it rises like steam to your head. If you cool your Chi, then it’ll condense and fall like rain down to your abdomen. In our language we talk about people being hot-headed or fired up and then you’ve got the cool down, calm down or chill out.

The World’s Longest Kill | Sniper Craig Harrison | Podcast #263
The World’s Longest Kill features Craig Harrison, who was an expert sniper from the Blues and Royals, within the British Army.
The World’s Longest Kill | Sniper Craig Harrison
Craig Harrison is a former Corporal of Horse in the Blues and Royals. From 2009 to 2017, he held the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill in combat.
Transcript from ‘The World’s Longest Kill’podcast
Craig – I went down to teach in Pirbright for two years and ended up doing my course there. I ended up being an instructor.
Chris – So out of how many people rock up for these courses and how many pass them?
Craig – You can have about 30 on the course. You go through different fitness phases and then they weed you out. So you end up with either 10 on the course or 12 on the course. They hit you hard because as a sniper you’ve got to know you field crafts as well as your discipline. Being mature as well, as you’re shooting and everything’s got to be there. You’ve got to be the whole package really. It’s funny, my chief instructor was a marine down there.
Chris – What did you picture in your mind when you wanted to become a sniper?
Craig – Everyone’s got this idea you go out with a rifle, look through a scope and you shoot people. It’s actually to gather live information on the battlefield.

Paul Wallis has lived in Thailand over 30 years and is the author of, ‘The Essential Guide To Living In Thailand’.
Transcript from ‘Old School Farang On Escaping Certain Death & Thailand Adventures’ podcast
Paul – I’m with you on that one Chris. We’re on the same path to spiritual enlightenment, you and I yes definitely. Whereas Buddhism talks about reincarnation and I’m guessing people would probably take that literally. Like you know I may come back as a pig in the next life.
Chris – For me Paul it’s more that we’re all universe and we come from a unified field, we come from a unified source and we go back to source when we die.
Paul – Exactly so we can’t die and we’re always going to be here, that’s right. I have no fear of death and I’m sure you don’t either. I should tell you that I had an out of body experience once and it was very short. At the age of 21 I came off a motorcycle in Crete and banged on the ground. At the very moment I banged on the ground, I’m looking down on myself and the bike back wheel was going round. There was white exhaust smoke and the loud noise of the engine, because the throttle was stuck open. I looked at myself and I thought, wow I’m outside and then bang, I was right back.

Fairbairn Sykes Commando Dagger | Paul McDonald | Podcast #261
Fairbairn Sykes Commando Dagger features master swordmaker Paul McDonald detailing his work with the Commando Dagger.
Fairbairn Sykes Commando Dagger
Paul McDonald with the British Army, is the owner of Master at Arms and is a master sword maker. Specialising in all edged weaponary, we hear about the famous Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Dagger.
Transcript from ‘Fairbairn Sykes Commando Dagger’ podcast
Paul – I had to take that plunge and I started specializing in historically accurate swords and knives. That was the focus to start with and I didn’t have a a main product at that time. That certainly changed along the way as my interest grew. I became a bit more focused as well and it wasn’t until 2008 that myself and a good friend who was involved with the academy of arms, decided to start a world war two based living history group.
We focused on the original commando training, from the highland training centers and the close combat. It was quite evident that the the F.S. fighting knife, the famous commando knife was right at the heart of that too. So that led to a path of of a quite intense focus on that knife and to remake it again as accurately and as closely as the original world war two examples.

42 Commando Royal Marines Battle For Mount Harriet
Jeff Williams of 42 Commando, tells the amazing story of how Mount Kent was secured, followed by the subsequent battle for Mount Harriet. He was a young corporal at the time of the Falklands War. Jeff served in 42 Commando’s HQ and finished his military career as a Warrant Officer Class 2. (WO2)
Transcript from ’42 Commando Royal Marines Battle For Mount Harriet’ podcast
Jeff – I spoke to a lot of the guys about it and they all thought it was an April fool. We didn’t believe they could have done it but they had and so we’re all fired up then to go. We should point out here it wasn’t a surrender, it was a ceasefire. The governor said, you know there’s no point, so he ordered the guys to put their weapons down.
We traveled down to union and had a couple of days to get ready. I remember getting all the kit and and checking everything was right. I wasn’t supposed to go to the Falklands, but being irritating, I went up to the company commander and said, look I want to go. He said look you’re on a senior command course and that’s important in your life. I said I don’t care, I’ve got to go.

Gaz Tombling served in the Royal Signals and served during the Falklands War. He is also an admin with the Global Veterans Alliance. Gaz shares his Falklands experience in great detail with Chris, offering detail with often humourous recollections.
Transcript from ‘Teenager In The Falklands War’ podcast
Gaz – If I’m perfectly honest, I went down to Deepcut in Surrey to have the final interview. They said what do you want to join and I said I want to go into the Paras. They went yes everything looks good for that so go off and have your lunch, have a think about it. I came back from the lunch and looked on the walls. It had murals of paratroopers dropping down and all this sort of stuff and I thought, that’s great. If I find out I don’t like it, what am I going to come out with you know?
I thought well at least if I go into the Signals, I’m going to have a trade I’ll be able to use. So really it was that logic that made me make that decision and put me in the Signals.
Chris – Yes tell us a bit about training and what’s it like settling into Royal Signals life.
Gaz – Well the infantry training is standard training and I’d spent a good four or five years as a kid in the army cadets. Once you’ve got through nine months of infantry training with a bit of communication stuff thrown in, you then go on to your designated trade.

Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne | Bought The T-Shirt Podcast
Colonel Dr Donald ‘Skip’ Mondragon of the 101st Airborne Division, served over 26 years in the US Army. He spent 18 months in combat zones and retired at the rank of colonel.
Transcript from ‘Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne’ podcast
Skip – I received an army ROTC scholarship and my college career started off at the university of Notre-Dame. I remember you spent a lot of time talking about your airborne jumps. It reminded me of going to airborne school after my freshman year of college.
Well I made five jumps so I qualified and I’ve got to get this right on the camera. I did get my airborne wings but I never made any combat jumps.
Chris – I like talking about my parachute course because a lot of time in my military career was very boring. The parachute course was being paid to do something that was so much fun.
Skip – I had some upperclassmen, they were going to attend airborne school and then go on to ranger school. They asked me if I wanted to go to airborne school and I thought about it for probably 20 seconds, no more than 30 seconds.

Phil Campion’s military career started with the Royal Hampshire Regiment. Phil went on to complete both the Commando course and ‘P Company’. Later Phil applied for special-forces selection and he served with D Squadron 22 SAS. Leaving the army with the rank of Staff Sergeant, Phil joined the ‘Circuit’ and became a top-selling author. Seen on national tv, Phil has become a well-received personality in the media and is now a proud champion of the Army Cadet Force.
Transcript from ‘Who Dares Wins’ podcast
Phil – Yes I was in the S.A.S. and yes I’ve been on television and yes I’ve also had some major problems in my life. It’s not all over and you don’t give up at the first hurdle. You don’t just go, ‘Oh I’ve had a few problems and boom it’s all over, the world’s ending’. It’s not that bad if you still have oxygen in your lungs and there’s still something you can do about it.

Elite Forces Discuss Flying Planes & Jumping | Jamie Hull SAS | #256
Elite Forces Discuss Flying Planes & Jumping, features SAS veteran, Jamie Hull who jumped from a burning airplane.
Elite Forces Discuss Flying Planes & Jumping | Jamie Hull SAS | Bought The T-Shirt
Jamie Hull is a veteran of the Special Air Service Reserve. Whilst out on a routine solo flight, his aeorplane’s engine caught fire. With flames encroaching his limbs, Jamie kept his head and remembered his flight instructor’s advice to, ‘Fly the damn plane!’ After Jamie had brought the plane down to a slightly safer altitude, he climbed out onto the wing and made a jump for it. The jump alone caused great damage to his body and with four degree burns, there seemed little chance of survival. Jamie sustained 60 per cent third-degree burns to his body, tissue scarring and internal injuries. He was given only a five per cent chance of survival.
Transcript from ‘Elite Forces Discuss Flying Planes & Jumping Out Of Them’ podcast
Jamie – They switch off with the supervision and they let them get on with it because they know they’re safe. They’re in the lounge, the snug or their bedroom and they’re watching untold amounts and a lot of it’s uncensored.
