During twenty years of service with 22 SAS Regiment, Bob participated in the Dhofar campaign, Oman, the Iranian Embassy siege in London, The Falklands War, the first Gulf War and Bosnia.

Bob Shepherd is a British Special Forces (UKSF) veteran and author. The Circuit was a Sunday Times bestseller. During twenty years of service with 22 SAS Regiment, Bob participated in the Dhofar campaign, Oman, the Iranian Embassy siege in London, The Falklands War, the first Gulf War and Bosnia. He left the Regiment as a Warrant Officer and worked on the international security circuit as an adviser. Bob’s work in the private sector has taken him to the most volatile places on earth, including the Balkans, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He is a regular media commentator on security issues and appears on CNN International, BBC One, BBC World, BBC Radio and SKY News.

Bob – So that was The Falklands and two years before that, we had The Iranian Embassy seige in London. I was on the top floor going in from the roof. It’s all part of being in a team. I had the job of lowering the explosives over the stairwell. If anybody watches the Iranian Embassy BBC clip on Youtube, there’s a big explosion and then there’s some journalists saying, ‘That was a bomb’. Then you then see the lads climbing out. You know, the four lads of the 30,000 that climbed out onto the balcony.

Royal Marines Commandos Cockleshell Endeavour, was four marines who rowed across the Atlantic Ocean, honouring the Cockleshell Heroes. This mammoth task was done in support of the Royal Marines Charity, raising almost £50,000

W – We were always clipped onto the boat at all times whenever we were on deck, so when we were changing over, we’d always make sure we we’re clipping on to the the safety line. We’d obviously be wearing a life jacket or we had little climbing up harnesses which we took the leg loops out, so we’re just using the belt.

J – The gentleman named Leroy who was in the co-pilot seat, when I looked down at him it was just kind of like his face was like soot you know? Like his face had some blood and stuff and he just kind of whispered saying to go get help. I just started turning around before I heard him say something andIi looked back down at him. He was looking at me but he was looking through me. He was looking past me and then I just heard his breath just kind of go. just He died right right in front of me there.

Brian Short joined the Royal Marines, not as a commando but as a bandsman. The Royal Marines Band is the finest military marching band in the world, but this doesn’t mean they don’t go to war. In this emotional podcast Brian tells his traumatic story, dealing with both Argentine and British casualties.

B – I very much knew in my own mind at that time, that we were going to win this war. Not because what I or the band were doing, but when you saw the professionalism and the fitness of the marines and the paras, you were training every day on Canberra. We know what they go through at Lympstone. I had no doubt that whoever they were going up against, these boys were going to commit acts of gross violence against the enemy and they were going to win.

Rusty Firmin was Special Air Service (SAS) Blue Team and back door Assault Team Leader, at the Iranian Embassy Siege. He served in SAS B Squadron, HQ Squadron 23 SAS permanent staff instructor and in 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery. He went on to work as a security consultant, close protection operative, security manager, author, speaker and consultant.

R – You know at the end of the day there’s no televisions inside the embassy that I’m aware of. That’s exactly what they would do. Don’t forget they’ve been sat outside there themselves from day one and cameras glued to the balcony front.

C – So massive hello to all our friends at home, today I have the absolute delight of being joined Clare Vosper. Clare is the wife of Chris Vosper who if you haven’t seen it already, I really suggest you watch the podcast I did with Chris. Fascinating guy, amazing history from the Royal Marines to flying Apache gunships in Afghanistan. Chris and Clare now run V-Force which is lots of things and I won’t try and sum it all up now but it’s basically a Special Forces driving experience, very high Octane stuff.

C – And I want to say great on achieving your 200 mile run, definitely well done!

C – So for those that don’t know instead of spending Christmas with the family I set out to run 200 miles instead.

The BBC film and docudrama, ‘Battle Of Danny Boy’ Brian Wood MC, features Brian Wood MC chatting with Chris Thrall. The soldier was falsely accused by disgraced lawyer, Phil Shiner, of war crimes during The Iraq war. Shiner’s firm were behind 65% of the allegations received by IHAT.

Brian Wood MC, former Colour Sergeant with The Princes of Wales Royal Regiment, was awarded the Military Cross. This is one of Britain’s highest awards for gallantry in combat, by Her Majesty The Queen II, following his courageous leadership under enemy fire in Iraq. In the heat of a lethal close quarters battle, fighting outnumbered, he seized the initiative, taking a split-second decision to lead his men into the teeth of enemy fire.
