Major William ‘Molly’ Macpherson joined the Royal Marines in 1980 and went on to fight in the Falklands War. William served in 42, 40 and 45 commando, going on to become a Mountain Leader. He also worked with the Special Boat Service. Major Macpherson also served as an Instructor at USMC’s Mountain warfare centre for 2 years. With a highly esteemed career, Molly takes us through his days as a young marine, thrust straight into the Falklands War. Jack Jarvis, a veteran from 59 Commando, has completed a 111 day row from Portugal to Florida and made it into the Guinness Book of Records.

Jack Jarvis has just been entered into the Guinness Book of Records, for rowing solo from Portugal to Florida. This has taken 111 days. Jack joined the British army at 16 years old and immediately volunteered for the All Arms Commando course. On successful completion, he spent the next seven years of his career within 59 Commando Squadron. After winning the British Army indoor rowing league in 2019, Jack rowed 4500 nautical miles across the Altantic ocean, breaking several world records.

Jack – Pretty amazing and 111 days at sea. I’m the first person to go from mainland Europe to mainland America. I should have my certificate in the next couple of days and that’s in the Guinness Book of Records.

Paths of Glory is a 1957 anti-war film, co-written and directed by Stanley Kubrick. Set during World War 1, the film stars Kirk Douglas. He plays the commanding officer of French soldiers who refuse to continue a suicidal attack. After the battle, Dax attempts to defend his soldiers against charges of cowardice.

Martin – Kubrick was 28 years old when he made this and the film was made in 1957. It looks like it was made for me, even though it’s in black and white, in the seventies or eighties. The quality of the film is because Kubrick was a master with his lenses. He knew everything about cameras and cinematography but when you watch it, going through the trenches using steady-cam and stuff like that, he was the pioneer of that type of filming.

Bart – There’s 15 links in the book, one of which goes into pretty good detail about this fake photography. I was producing the film under the theory it might be true, that they faked it. My production was financed by a board member of an aerospace company who builds rockets for NASA. He knows that it’s fake. He felt it was his patriotic duty to support the production of these films to expose this horrendous government fraud.

About three and a half years into the seven year project, I’m looking for the launch unedited and everything. I pop in a tape that Bill Casey a whistleblower at NASA believes that another whistleblower sent to me. It says immediately do not show to the public on the screen and I’m like, oh this should be good.

I’ve seen police officers come into an establishment and do a lecture. Their image of of humans can be so off the mark.

David Robb was the youngest Royal Marine to serve in the Falklands War. He was also the fittest marine in his troop and went on to box at the Commonwealth games in Edinburgh. This is a detailed account of his time with 42 Commando.

Davey – All of a sudden I was either taken away from defensive or we all became part of it. Our job or my job with Smudge, was to take up a position at the bottom of Mount Harriet, to to the side so to speak. So we’re here at the side, we’ve then got K company on the start line. Then L company come up and our job was to keep their heads down.

As soon as any firing started, our job was to just keep firing at that non-stop, until it stopped and you either got them or they moved.

Chris – Were you in the SF role now?

Davey – Yes I went into SF. I even thought because there was a couple of close ones, of taking my lace because I had spare laces. This sounds stupid but I thought of taking my lace out because it wouldn’t move. This SF is solid. I even thought I’d take my lace out and instead of sticking my head up, actually tying a lace and then pulling it to fire three or four you know?
