A – I’d only really considered the impact that his actions, or lack of actions, had on my life after he passed away. I wasn’t actually free to judge him at all. I saw his pain and trauma but then when he wasn’t alive, it make me really think about how unsafe my childhood was and how I was honoring him in his death.

Bob – So that was The Falklands and two years before that, we had The Iranian Embassy seige in London. I was on the top floor going in from the roof. It’s all part of being in a team. I had the job of lowering the explosives over the stairwell. If anybody watches the Iranian Embassy BBC clip on Youtube, there’s a big explosion and then there’s some journalists saying, ‘That was a bomb’. Then you then see the lads climbing out. You know, the four lads of the 30,000 that climbed out onto the balcony.

W – We were always clipped onto the boat at all times whenever we were on deck, so when we were changing over, we’d always make sure we we’re clipping on to the the safety line. We’d obviously be wearing a life jacket or we had little climbing up harnesses which we took the leg loops out, so we’re just using the belt.

C – You’re obviously very well read. How did you get into writing and have you always been a reader?
R – I’ve always loved books. I love books more than television. I think being a soldier, I didn’t like the idea of going into the tv room and not being able to watch the program I wanted to because the other lads were watching Top of the Pops.

Mark held a residency at the Ministry of Sound and bagged a UK Singles Chart Top 10 hit with his remix of Lou Reed’s, ‘Satellite of Love’. Mark’s DJ career saw him tour the world and he was living the superstar DJ lifestyle, until he tragically collapsed with an incurable disease. With constant agony and taking painkillers, Mark fell into bankruptcy, depression and dark thoughts. With a major twist, Mark rebuilt his life and he now helps others lead a more fulfilled life. His debut book entitled, ‘Life Remixed’ is out now.

Brian Short joined the Royal Marines, not as a commando but as a bandsman. The Royal Marines Band is the finest military marching band in the world, but this doesn’t mean they don’t go to war. In this emotional podcast Brian tells his traumatic story, dealing with both Argentine and British casualties.

B – I very much knew in my own mind at that time, that we were going to win this war. Not because what I or the band were doing, but when you saw the professionalism and the fitness of the marines and the paras, you were training every day on Canberra. We know what they go through at Lympstone. I had no doubt that whoever they were going up against, these boys were going to commit acts of gross violence against the enemy and they were going to win.
C – I’m just looking at your notes and I’m trying not to get ahead of ourselves Brian. So what was D-Day in San Carlos like?
