Exocet INBOUND | HMS Glasgow In The Falklands

Andy Williams is a veteran of the Royal Navy and served on HMS Glasgow during the Falklands War. Glasgow saw action early in the war when her Lynx helicopter severely damaged the Argentine naval vessel, Alferez Sobral. Glasgow then detected an Exocet missile fired at the Task Force and warned the fleet. HMS Sheffield failed to receive the warning and was hit, later sinking. Andy found himself just inches away from an Argentine missile that struck the side of his ship. Luckily, Glasgow managed to stay in the fight, taking on the role of long-range fleet defence. After leaving the Royal Navy, Andy became a firefighter and with years of experience, he pulls no punches in describing his work and his observations regarding recent emergencies in London. He now works as a trauma specialist, helping people to deal with PTSD.

Andy – We got dragged down into the engine room by the chief stoker, to set about repairing the two huge holes on the water line. It was amazing going down the ladder and seeing daylight in the engine room. That just blew me away and bright green sea cascading through these great big holes.

Within a relatively short amount of time we were shifting a huge amount of water and we set about fixing it. We were freezing and we didn’t have a chance to put our orange survival suits on.

Chris – You know I think it’s quite a peaceful and tolerant philosophy. His name was Siddhartha. He was a prince and his father wanted him to become a king. He left the palace and prior to him going outside of the palace, he’d never seen death or old age. Siddhartha had every luxury you can imagine and then he came out and he saw in the streets, old people dying, sick and poor.

Life contains lots of suffering that we don’t understand. In fact, there’s a lot of suffering when someone gives birth and when you’re born. Suffering of actually acquiring material goods and being separated from them.

His work took him across the globe, from the jungles of Sierra Leone to the harsh deserts of the middle-east. Steve has also taught combat survival to service personnel all around the world.

Steve – There was one time we were out in Afghanistan and we’re heading towards a town. We’re getting to an obvious sort of choke point and this is dodgy, but we’ve got to go through it. You can’t just turn off a mission because you think it’s dangerous. Obviously the mission is dangerous by nature and while we’re doing that, the guy picked up a transmission on the radio and someone said they are coming.

Jason – I took part in Harriet nine with 42 commando. It was a good experience. I’ve done a wide variety of soldiering. We were doing anything from intel-gathering, to finding I.E.D factories and we were battling with the insurgents. It’s definitely a valuable experience and one of the highlights of my career.

Martin had served in Iraq and been vilified by the national press, for filming an apparant beating of Iraqi youths. The papers didn’t mention that the same youths had been throwing grenades at Martin’s unit for the past few days.

In his film, ‘Diary of a Disgraced Soldier’, Martin tells the whole story of what actually happened in Iraq. Here Chris and Martin chat about war, Indian building sites, Buster Keaton and more.

If you’ve been trained in hypnosis, one could see the mass hypnosis over the last two years. When they wake up from it, they’re going to go, ‘Oh my God, how did I believe in it?’ It’s because we’ve been taken in by all these embedded suggestions.

Chris served in 3 Commando, Rhodesian Light Infantry from 1976 to 1979. He saw continuous action against Mugabe’s ZANLA and NKomo’s ZIPRA forces. Airmobile in Alouette III helicopters and vintage C-47 Dakotas, Chris amassed over twenty combat jumps. The Rhodesian commandos were at the spearhead on cross-border raids into Zambia and Mozambique.

Chris – There were probably three or four fire forces in operation at any one time. Not all were operated by the R.L.I. with a couple being operated by the Rhodesian African Rifles. They raised the fire force strength from three helicopters and a Dakota DC3 converted. The Dakota could take sixteen to twenty pairs at a time.

What had happened, is the fire force would take the three helicopters and they’d go off to the contact area with the Lynx hovering around. The helicopters would go back and try and pick up a second wave of troops if they could. Depending on how the contact developed, he would utilize his powers and they would drop sixteen to twenty to troops. They would become the sweep line.

King Arthur Uther Pendragon is an eco-campaigner, Druid leader and self-declared reincarnation of King Arthur. Born into a working-class family, Arthur served in the Royal Hampshire Regiment and went on to form the Loyal Arthurian Warband. Angered by the English Heritage charging money to visit Stonehenge, he picketed outside on a daily basis. Joining with the council of British Druid Orders, they campaigned for open access to Stonehenge. Arthur has also stood in several elections as an independant candidate for Salisbury. In 2003, Pendragon published his autobiography, ‘The Trials of Arthur’.

Arthur – One of the arguments I had with the Pagan community, is if you go around Britain and look at a lot of the sacred Pagan sites, they were at one stage Christianized. Effectively what he was saying, was that if they’re going to go and worship anyway, you may as well build a church. A lot of the Pagans say, well what the hell is that doing on an ancient Pagan site? They Christianized it and they’ve stole it and I always say no.
