Mick Dawson is a former Royal Marines Commando, film maker, professional sailor and adventurer. He is best known for rowing the Pacific Ocean with friend and fellow ocean rower Chris Martin in a new state of the art vessel, Bojangles, which Mick built. In 2009, they completed their 7,000 mi (11,000 km) voyage in 189 days 10 hours and 55 minutes; a world first and earning a place in the Guinness Book of records. His tale of being capsized alone while rowing the Pacific is one you don’t want to miss!

Iranian Embassy Siege, features Robin Horsfall, who is a legend amongst the world of military names. Also known as, ‘The wise old paratrooper’, Robin was part of the famous Iranian Embassy seige and The Falkands war. He is also now an accomplished writer and poet.

Robin Horsfall is ‘The Wise Old Paratrooper.’ He served with the Parachute Regiment and 22 Special Air Service (SAS) from 1972 to 1984. He took part in several famous missions including the SAS Embassy Siege in London on May 5th 1980, later made into the film, ‘6 Days’ as advised on by Rusty Firmin – and an ‘insane’ mission into Argentina in 1982. These are just some of his many exploits.

An acclaimed martial artist, in recent years he started placing philosophical maxims on social media and became known as ‘The Wise Old Paratrooper.’ Robin is a spokesperson for Justice for Northern Ireland Veterans.

R – Yeah I’m good, as well as can be expected under the circumstances I think, but I’m still here.

C – Yes, strange times, but you’re no stranger to them.

R – No, no. I’m sixty three now, but have managed to pack a lot into those sixty three years. Depends where you wanna go with it really.

C – Well, I would say a lot of wisdom comes from your sixty three, I was reading some of your paratrooper books, sorry the wise old paratrooper.

R – Yes, yes I did a little trilogy when I broke my neck so I couldn’t carry on teaching Karate, so I went off to Surrey University while my neck healed as an undergraduate at the age of 56, graduated at 59 in English literature with creative writing. John Mew was the PTI on HMS Coventry when the ship was sunk in the Falklands Conflict. John was also a Royal Navy field gunner and commercial diver, but his toughest battle came after being diagnosed with PTSD in 2015.

As you know I was on an aircraft carrier for a year and you have to do all the training obviously in case you have to abandon ship. Paratrooper walks The UK, features Chris Lewis, a former British paratrooper from Swansea in South Wales. Chris walked the entire UK coastline in order to raise money for SSAFA in August 2017.

Veteran Chris Lewis, 39, a former British paratrooper from Swansea in South Wales, left to walk the entire UK coastline to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity in August 2017. Chris, 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment (2 Para), struggled to cope with life on ‘civvy street’ after leaving the parachute regiment and finding himself homeless. SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity stepped in to help him, but when he faced homelessness for a second time, he decided to embark on an incredible journey.

He decided to walk the entire UK coastline on behalf of SSAFA as his way of giving back, with the aim of raising £100,000 for the Armed Forces charity.

Dom’s bio: Starting my martial arts journey at the age of 6 in Judo and then going on to do 10 different martial arts. Being the Son of a Royal Artillery soldier, martial arts was a big part of my life, my hero was Bruce Lee, acting out all the moves from Enter the Dragon. As a young adult, my journey was put on hold due to work and life getting in the way, having spent around 5 years away my life was taking a very different turn, one which saw me involved in football crowds and ‘gangs’.

After a few charges against me and me realising that my life was not where I wanted it to be I decided that I had to make changes and the only way I knew how was to walk into a martial arts dojo again. I needed respect and discipline back in my life. My life changed, I got promoted at work reaching senior Management status within a local authority and then leaving to set up my own businesses.

British Bobsleigh Pilot | Adam Baird

Adam (Adz) Baird joined the GB Bobsleigh set up as a pilot ahead of the 2019/20 sliding season. He made his GB debut in Winterberg on the Europa Cup circuit in December 2019, when he finished 24th alongside Lawrence Taylor. A serving member of the Royal Marines for 12 years, he began his bobsleigh career competing for the Marines and the Royal Navy in 2017. Adz comes from an active sporting background, having competed at national level in powerlifting, for which he has a 247.5kg deadlift personal best in the 82.5kg category as well as rugby union and rugby 7’s for the Royal Marines with rugby league for the Royal Marines and Royal Navy teams. His time in the military has seen multiple deployments around the globe, including a tour of Afghanistan in 2010.
