Stephen had a troubled upbringing in Ireland before moving to London and battled demons such as drug addiction. S – I was born here Chris, I was taken over there as a six month old child, I had no recollection as to going back…

C – It’s funny, when you came onto the Zoom meeting before we went live and I heard you say “Hi there, how you doing”. It’s weird as I hear you say that most mornings from your inspirational morning talks. I set my Facebook t0 have the one year no beer post showing first, so you don’t get that dose of negativity as you first wake up! For our friends at home, it’s Andy running through the forest talking about the benefits of not drinking alcohol in your life. That doesn’t mean give it up forever but for at least a particular period in life. It’s not about being a monk or something to that extreme. So from myself mate, thank you so much for those.
A – It’s my favourite part of the day Chris, just being out there in the wild and connecting with so many different people, with the truth being told, I didn’t actually think that would be a big part of what I would be doing.

Tom Evans made his mark on the ultrarunning world in 2017, when he came third in the 251km desert ultra Marathon des Sables (MdS). Despite entering on the back of a bet with a friend, his third-place finish was the best result any European had ever achieved in the history of the race. Evans astounded once again in 2018, when he won the 101km CCC race at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) – the pinnacle of an incredibly successful racing year, which also saw him take the top spot – and break course records – at the Coastal Challenge Costa Rica. At 2019’s Western States 100, a near iconic fixture on the ultrarunning calendar, Evans took third place and even broke the record for the fastest overseas time at the Californian race, clocking 14 hrs 59 minutes in his debut 100-miler. A British Army Captain, Tom Evans was little known to the ultrarunning world until 2017, but is now one of the world’s leading competitors.

C – … ‘so how much time have I spent in Thailand? Well the first time I was there Paul, I got what was known as an indulgence flight, it’s basically a really cheap flight you can get through the military, so personnel can serve their bases around the world. So I flew to Hong Kong for £40, had a really interesting time there, this would have been around 1992. I was celebrating NYE there, and witnessed a massive crush panic as people began to gather for the midnight celebrations. My second experience there was being almost a witness to Hong Kong gangster Yip Kai Foon on one of his jewellery shop rampages. Its such an insance place.

James Stejskal was recruited from the 82nd Airborne Brigade into an elite military special forces unit, the green berets, to operate espionage and reconnaissance hundreds of miles behind the Iron Curtain in Cold War Berlin. Rich Jones served with the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment. Upon leaving the British Army he found himself directionless and became heavily involved in organised crime. Eventually his underworld criminal cocaine network was taken down by the police and he received a 15-year prison sentence. Rich left this life behind him and is now an author and a veterans support speaker, teacher, mentor and course creator.

Red Arrows To 747 Pilot | Sqn Ldr Andy Wyatt
Andy started his career in the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1979 and after completing flying training flew the iconic English Electric Lightning with 11(F) Squadron at Royal Air Force Binbrook in Lincolnshire. His duties included intercepting intruding Russian aircraft during the height of the Cold War. 4 years flying the Lightning was followed by a tour as a flying instructor at Royal Air Force Valley in Anglesey, flying the British Aerospace Hawk, where Andy taught student pilots and instructors in the advanced flying role. He was selected to join the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows, for a 3 year tour of duty.
Andy was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air and on promotion to Squadron Leader. Andy joined British Airways as a Captain on the Boeing 747 ‘Jumbo Jet’, flew long haul routes around the world. He is currently the Chief Pilot for Longtail Aviation, an international cargo airline based in Bermuda. Andy has flown a vast number of aircraft and now has over 20,000 hours of flying experience.

C – Yeah it’s great, having a podcast you get to speak to so many people you have things in common with. Out of that sharing you get great conversation. Sometimes I forget to press record on the podcast! I’ve lost all that, that’s consigned to history now. So, my gosh, we hooked up on linked in, and I’m very fortunate to meet people on linked in with such rich histories and experiences such as yours Andy. From the Red Arrows to commercial airline pilot. Anyone who grew up in my era watched a film called Airplane, it was a spoof of all the jumbo jet movies of the seventies and eighties.
