Nirmal (‘Nims’) Purja MBE was born in Nepal. He served as a Gurkha and in the elite Special Boat Service (SBS) before leaving to embark upon a record-breaking conquest of all fourteen of the world’s 8,000m peaks in under seven months – beating the previous record of eight years.

C – Hi Matt brother, how are you?

M – I’m good, I’m good. Mentally I’m good anyways, and spirit wise. Body is quite conditioned to be fair. Obviously I’m not fresh, but that’s what you can expect from a challenge like that.

C – So just briefly for our guests at home could you outline what you’ve just done so they know what we’re talking about?

M – I set out to raise some money for the NHS and the PPE for the situation we find ourselves in with Covid. I came up with idea after the lockdown, isolation and quarantine to create a mountain in my front garden. However I’ve already done Mt Everest replication on a Stairmaster, so I needed to trump that. I created a one metre mountain and climbed it for the equivalent of the highest mountain in the solar system.’
